25 June 2009 The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has established a State Migration Service. A Decree was adopted at the latest meeting of the Cabinet of Minister of Ukraine on 24 June 2009. The Decree stipulates the mandate of the State Migration Service as a 'specially mandated central body of executive power' in the field of migration, citizenship, immigration and registration of individuals. The State Migration Service will be responsible for managing the acquisition and cancellation of citizenship, registration of individuals who have acquired or cancelled their citizenship, issuance of Ukrainian passports and other identification documents, issues and registers invitation letters for foreigners and stateless individuals for entry into and exit from Ukraine. Moreover, the State Migration Service will carry out refugee status determination - recognition, loss or cancellation of refugee status as well as immigration permits. In 2009, the State Migration Service will be funded through the budget of the Ministry of Interior and State Committee for Nationalities and Religion.
