| 25 February 2009 On Thursday 26 February 2009 the Justice and Home Affairs Council will commence in Brussels. The Council will be chaired by Minister of Justice Jiří Pospíšil and Minister of the Interior Ivan Langer. Ministers of the Interior will discuss the following items in the Home Affairs area on Thursday 26 February: - Draft Council Conclusions on SIS II (Schengen Information System, 2nd generation)
- Proposal for a Regulation establishing a European Asylum Support Office
- Combating illegal immigration in the Mediterranean
- Discussion on the situation of Iraqi refugees
- Draft Council Decision appointing the Director of Europol
- Guantánamo
- Visa Information System – state of affairs
- Rational Anti-Drugs Policy
The press conference with the participation of Minister of the Interior Ivan Langer and Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security Jacques Barrot will take place on Thursday 26 February at 14:30. The Justice Ministers will deal with the following topics on Friday 27 February: - Proposal for a Council Framework Decision on prevention and settlement of conflicts of jurisdiction in criminal proceedings
- Implementation of the European eJustice Action Plan
- Negotiating mandate for a mutual legal assistance agreement between the European Union and Japan
- Proposal for a Directive of the EP and of the Council amending Directive 2005/35/EC on ship-source pollution.
