Workshop on Judicial Practice in the field of illegal migration is taking place in Riga on 22-23 May 2008

Venue: Riga, Latvia

Participants:

Experts from units in charge of combating irregular migration and smuggling in human beings, judiciaries and NGO experts dealing with stranded irregular migrants to discuss the latest developments in this field in the EU (legislative framework for mutual assistance in judicial matters, European Judicial Network, Eurojust, European Judicial Training Network, etc.)

Objectives
  • Review the implementation of minimum standards in the prosecution and criminalisation of smuggling and minimum standards in the observance of the rights of forced and illegal migrants;
  • Look into and the relevance of regional cooperation and readmission agreements and ways to establish and/or improve the existing cross-border judicial cooperation in the field of irregular migration.
