Fluency in Estonian is required for long-term residents

20 March 2007

“Any person applying for the long-term resident status has been given one year as a transition period to meet integration requirements. It means that passing an Estonian language proficiency exam is not required until 1 June 2007”, said Kert Valdaru, head of the citizenship and migration policy department in the MFA of Estonia. He added also that any person wishing to apply for the long-term resident status without passing the exam must keep in mind that less than two months are left for that.
