| 1 March 2007 A press conference entitled “The Border Service’s activities during the first two months of the current year: fighting illegal migration” was held in the Border Service of Moldova on 1 March 2007. The Border Service carried out its activities to maintain border security in accordance with the Law on the State Border of Moldova and according to analysis of the situation and development trends in cross-border crime, in particular, to fight illegal migration. 521 trespassers have been apprehended, 16 smuggling cases have been stopped and 43 wanted persons and 2 vehicles have been traced during two months of 2007. The following have been apprehended on border checkpoints: border trespassers – 178 persons in 105 cases; border regime violators – 135 persons in 70 cases. 9 smuggling cases have been prevented.
