| 02.02.2007 Lithuanian and Belarusian border guards met on 2 February to complete the verification of final documents of the border demarcation. The documents had been presented for consideration of the Belarusian-Lithuanian demarcation commission, which has its place in Minsk. The delegations were led by the chiefs of the state border delimitation and demarcation department of the State Border Troops Committee of Belarus Mr. Alexander Arkhipov and deputy director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia department of the Foreign Ministry of Lithuanian Mr. Zenonas Kumetaitis. After the final documents of the Belarusian-Lithuanian state border demarcation are verified, all national procedures of putting into force bilateral documents will be adhered to. The physical demarcation of a 680km-long section of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border was completed on March 10, 2006. The last border check point was placed in Lake Giluta. Altogether, there are 2,000 border check points in this region. |
